16. Reverse Pivot
Fact Sheet
Official Name:Reverse Pivot
Dance / Level:Full Bronze American Style Tango
Aliases:Paseo Ocho
Suggested
Prerequisites:
None

A Reverse Pivot is a development of the Left-Turning Rock, taken with a pivot on the foot, allowing for more turn per step.

Multiple consecutive Reverse Pivots are a difficult skill to master, so in the bronze level, a single Reverse Pivot is introduced as part of a group of 3 steps which can substitute for the end of any Reverse Turn: Step 1 is the Reverse Pivot with man back / lady forward (Quick). Steps 2-3 are two Tango Walks (Quick, Slow).

This figure normally begins with man backing line of dance, following steps 1-3 of Open Left Turn or Contra Rock. A typical amount of turn is 3/8 on 1, followed by 1/8 over 2-3, for a total of 1/2 turn to left to end with man facing line of dance. But the Reverse Pivot can be turned as little as 1/4 to left or as much as 1/2 to left on step 1, allowing for many more possible starting and ending alignments.

A popular combination begins with man facing line of dance, taking steps 1-3 of Contra Rock (QQS), followed by Reverse Pivot (QQS) to end facing against line of dance. This is followed by steps 1-6 of Contra Rock with 3/8 turn to left to end with man facing diagonal wall.
