I believe the confusion may be from the term " Sway " .

There are 3 movements that are in the " group " .

First.. Oversway,, standard figure

second... Throw away O/Sway.. an extension of the above

third.. Scriveners description.. a " press down O.Sway " .... see # 2

I can't help wonder if the question that was meant to be asked was

"What is the difference between an oversway and a throwaway oversway"

But that is not of course what johnpower wrote, so we'll have to wait for him to expand on his question.

On a Throwaway Oversway which is mostly called a Throwaway. The lady takes her left leg behind keeping her hips in contact with the partner. It shouldn't be difficult to find a photo from one of the comps. It is a picture line and can be held for extra music. It usually follows a Fallaway and a Double Reverse Spin. It is often then followed by a Wrong foot Lunge to the man's right which is followed by a Tele Spin with a Chasse to finish to the left. Which gives us Eight Bars of Waltz all up. The above is the most common used where I come from.
This is a good tip. After the Double Reverse Spin There is a Heel Turn for the lady into a Closed Telemark and then the Throwaway. On the Heel Turn the man's RF must track the ladies LF. Stepping wide will give a bad entry.

Maybe the questioner was asking for the relationship between an 'oversway' and a 'throwaway oversway'?

Phil. Maybe we should first look at the misunderstanding of an Oversway. Some people think that it follows a type of Lunge to the Left instead of a continues curve of the body to the right.
The Throwaway needs a type of Lunge to the Left whereas the Oversway doesn't. Both need a competent teacher to teach these.

My usual progression is a Fallaway Slip Pivot-Closed telemary-Throwaway

or Chasse to R-Oversway

I am wondering if the term "throwaway oversway" is a misnomner. I mean, can one do an oversway from a throwaway position. I don't think so.

No, its not a misnomer.. the term T/away indicates that the lady has created an extended line, thru the foot to the shldr, and the " shaping" relates to the sway part of the exercise.

Scriveners term is much more alliterative " Press down "

Johnpower. It is possible to do a Throwaway from an Oversway. I dont think it would be recomended that a Oversway be performed after the Throwaway Position has been found. If you want to enlarge your collection of moves. Exit the Throwaway by the lady bringing her LF which is behind to the RF . The man the natural opposite.Turn the lady a fraction clockwise untill she is able to move her RF behind .The man does a Lunge to his right. This is called a Wrong Foot Lunge. It can be seen there is a slight simularity to the Throwaway for the lady being that in both cases a foot goes to her rear. Now you need a Telespin to exit. The man must let beat one go past before moving. The lady uses beat one. Good Luck.
