Re: video screens do not work--

The first question I have to ask is, Do you have the Quicktime Player installed on your computer?

Assuming you have all the necessary software, then there might be some sort of configuration issue that's preventing Quicktime Player from playing embedded videos properly, at least the way they're set up on our website. Generally with Windows computers, we recommend Flash, although I do know that there was an issue a few years ago with Flash and embedded video on Windows 7 and Internet Explorer in its default settings; Some sort of extra settings tweak was required, but it has been to long for me to remember.

If you're using Internet Explorer, try another browser to see if that works. Google Chrome seems to have the best success rate with our website. If you can get that to work, but you'd prefer to use IE, at least you've narrowed down the problem to the browser. From there it'll simply be a matter of tweaking your IE settings to figure out which one fixes the problem. If you can't figure it out, at least you've got Chrome.

You're also welcome to use the beta version of our upcoming website revision, which is located at http://new.ballroomdancers.com/. The new BallroomDancers.com will use HTML5 video instead, which is slowly becoming the new industry standard. You should have no problems playing the video there. However, please be aware that as of the writing of this message, the new BallroomDancers.com is only good for browsing our syllabus and watching video. If you try to browse elsewhere on the website, you'll probably run into some dead links. The syllabus section is finished, but the rest of the website is still under construction. Also, until the new website has been released to the general public, the videos will not play by default. You will have to click on a video in the video menu before anything will play.

Jonathan Atkinson
