Teaching and Private Lessons

Hi, my name is Emily Curran. I'm eighteen years old and have been dancing since December of 2017. I've currently been taking classes to get my American Smooth metal certification, but I also take pro/am lessons. I've just learned that I cannot take private lessons and teach (when I receive my certificate that is) at the same time. Would anyone happen to know more on this?

Medal tests are of an Amateur classification. Prof exams are differently based

In North America, all you have to do to be a 'professional dance teacher' is to teach dance and be paid. You don't have to take your exams. However, that is the end of your amateur career. You can and should still take lessons (especially since you have danced less than a year) but you can't dance pro-am.

Yes, I plan to continue to take Pro-Am lessons for a few more years. Thank you!

There are new rules in the U.S. in place for Amat. to teach without losing status.

Sadly in the U.S. you can watch 1 video on ballroom dancing and hang a sign on your door front that you are a ballroom teacher.

If you dance NDCA you can not take money for teaching and compete as an amateur.

If you dance the USA Dance program students (non professionals) are teaching and getting paid AND can still calling themselves non professionals when the compete.
