8. Open Reverse Turn, Lady In-Line
Fact Sheet
Official Name:Open Reverse Turn, Lady In-Line
Dance / Level:Full Bronze Tango
Aliases:Heel Turn Reverse
Suggested
Prerequisites:
Open Reverse Turn, Lady Outside, Back Corte

There are three reverse turns in the bronze Tango syllabus: (1) The Open Reverse with Lady Outside, (2) Open Reverse with Lady In-Line, and (3) The Progressive Side Step Reverse Turn.

The first two figures are similar: Both are patterns consisting of 6 steps, taken to the counts QQS, QQS. What sets the two apart -- "Lady Outside" vs "Lady In-Line" -- is a description of the position of the third step.

The Open Reverse with Lady In-Line begins like the first 2 steps of a Foxtrot Reverse Turn. Man begins facing diagonal center and takes two steps: LF forward in CBMP, then right foot to side, while leading the lady to dance a type of heel turn*. Step 3 is then taken with left back, left side leading, down line of dance. This third step is taken with lady in-line with man (as opposed to outside partner), a position maintained through the use of the heel turn on steps 1-2.

Steps 4-6 are the Closed Finish, and are nearly identical to the Closed Finish of the outside partner Reverse Turn: RF back in CBMP toward diagonal center, LF side, and RF closing to LF. End with man facing diagonal wall. Note the different alignment of step 4 -- diagonal center, rather than down line of dance.

* The lady's action on steps 1-2 appears as a sort of heel turn, as she closes her feet at the center of the turn on step 2. However, it's not a true heel turn in the sense that she does not pivot on the right heel; In true Tango fashion, the left heel is simply placed next to the right heel, toe turned out.
