Before you purchase Night Club Two Step videos you may want to do some research. Night Club Two Step has undergone lots of changes since its beginning. Schwimmer is credited with being the inventor of the dance and Montez is being given credit for being a co-inventor. Both have strong opinions on how the dance should be done and they are similar but maybe slightly different in places. Unfortunately the United Country Western Dance Council adopted neither of these. They use something different, and as a result most teachers teach it the UCWD way. So if you are just going to dance for fun, it may not matter to you, but if you should someday use it in a competition you may wish you had learned it the UCWD way.
One major difference is in the timing. Montez does a basic 1&2 3&4 starting with a rock back on left foot on 1. UCWD does a basic as 1 2&3 4&, starting with a side step on 1. So the slower step happens at different times in the music with these two styles. Actually you can find songs that will work with both of these timings, or some that will work with one but not the other, and of course there are many songs that won't work with either. Take a close look at the types of songs needed for NC2. Notice that they all have lots of eighth notes.
Actually I don't like either of these timings. I always hoped they would do it SQQ and make it something like a country version of a bolero. They claim it is a sexy dance now, but I can't see it. SQQ would also eliminate the need for songs with lots of eighth notes. Of course when you dance it for fun, you can do it your own way.
