Cleaning satin shoes

Hi everyone - I recently got some flesh-colour satin ballroom shoes. I sprayed them with fabric-shoe protector, but that doesn't protect against men treading on them! I've read lots of conflicting advice about whether you can use water/soap/stain removers on satin - What do you all use?
Thank you!

Spray WD-40 on, wipe it off after few minutes then reapply as necessary. WD-40 works well on many materials and fabrics without causing harm because it's a water base product.

WD-40?

I've never heard that suggestion before. It isn't water-based, but largely made from hexane and mineral oil. I would have thought the oil would stain, and darken as it oxidises.

I'd be very careful not to get it on the soles ...
