I'm new here and just printed out this weeks variation. Does anyone know what the abbrev. CBMP is? I didn't find it in there dictionary.

According to Moore, CBMP stands for "Contrary Body Movement Position." At times, other will say "counter" instead of contrary" but the meaning is the same.

Moore defines CBMP as "[a] foot position where the foot is placed on or across the line of the supporting foot, either in front or behind to maintain body line" (page 6, 10th edition of "The Ballroom Technique").

Keep in mind that CBMP is a position and not a movement (as CBM is).

New to this site, or new to dancing?
Knowing what CBMP means is helpful ... if you know what CBM is.
When I was first learning, no one explained it very well, let alone what it should look like or feel like.
The diagrams on this site and definitions are helpful, but I watched a You Tube of some sort in which the instructor was really pounding on it with the students and making them try it over and over.
It was a fairly decent demonstration on a concept that seems to get glossed over fairly quickly, or not even mentioned at all.
I don't recall it in years I was at a chain, but a private instructor spent a little more time with it.
Neither.

I'm neither new to this site or new to dancing.

I know you're not new. As you should know, we've exchanged ideas and thoughts for years now on this message board.
My question was directed at original poster. I was thinking if he or she was new to dancing, it would be a good idea to understand CBM, or at least make an attempt to realize its importance.
