Dark color on women's latin shoes

For years I have been wondering what that dark color is on the bottom of professional women's latin shoes. I'm sure it's for better traction, but what is that stuff?

It is just suede. Sometimes it is darker because dancers will get the soles of their shoes wet if the action on the floor is too fast (slippery).

It was all white ( mens and ladies ) until recent times.. the reason they dyed it ?.. a world famous coach made this comment.. " The white soles look like a rabbit hopping around the floor".

That may have precipitated the color change .

Its correct name is Chrome leather ( frequently called non-skid ).

You may also buy the replacement Soles and heels from Supa dance .
