Leonard Cohens Hallelujah

Hi there

I'm just wondering if you could help me? I am currently looking for a waltz song for my daughter to do a waltz tap to. She wants to dance to Leonard Cohens Hallelujah, some web sites have this listed as a Viennese waltz depending on who is singing it. Is it possible to do the classic waltz (1 2 3) steps to a viennese waltz song? Possibly the version done by Alexandra Bourke or some other that the Leonard Cohen version. Hope you sort of understand what I mean!

It is a lovely song and it is a Viennese Waltz in both versions. It isn't just about the speed of the words it is the speed of the beat in the music itself. There are some songs that lend themselves to different dances because they have several layers of danceable beats within the music. This is too simple a song for that to happen.

The Viennese Waltz is very fast and so there are only a few actual steps that belong with it. You could get hurt or look silly trying to adapt many of the steps that go with a regular waltz to this dance. There are some you could get away with and who knows if your daughter is tap dancing you may have more latitude.

Good luck
