Dress Making Question

I'm looking into making my own ballroom/latin gowns and I was wondering how they make the back in order to put it on. For example, I mean, do they make the gowns with zippers, buttons, etc so that when you pull it on you don't risk ripping the material?

Any advice would help as I have not personally worn a competition style gown. Thanks in advance

I have never seen buttons. Usually there are hook and eyes and zippers.

I have seen snaps in the crotch but only when it is necessary due to the design of the dress.

You may want to go to a competition and wander through the racks and see how they are constructed before you take on trying to make them. They aren't like regular dresses and they aren't made of regular materials. You need to know how a fabric is going to move and flow so you look good.

Good luck

Every competition dress I've seen has an invisible zipper in the back. You might want to order a plain dress without stones or any decorations from Hong Kong (Ebay) and study the construction to make your own. I have a friend who finds it easier and cheaper to buy the plain dress and then stone and decorate it herself.
