Bachata getting popular

Had my first Bachata lesson the other night, and even though I don't have the core strength any more to really do the hip action and leg "pop" properly, it seemed like a pretty fun dance. I was wondering if this is something gaining popularity, or just a Latin dance that will have a strong following and then fade away.
I am assuming it is not listed as a social dance on the videos on this site for the reason it is not widely accepted?

It has world wide appeal, and in Latin clubs is played often inbetween salsa sets in many cases. Its been around for multi yrs, and is a staple in the genre, being an authentic rhythm from the Dominican Rep.

It didnt make any gound work until the late 80s in the States .

I knew you would have an answer for me, terence. Really surprised I have not encountered this dance before. As I mentioned, it is tricky to get the proper feel for it, and it does appear that being young would be a definite advantage. I suppose you could say that about any dance, really. But anyone could do bachata, as long as your hips were pretty strong.

I doubt any B/room schools would play/teach it. Very common in Latin clubs and congresses . Pretty music and simple construction . May be danced in closed position or slightly apart .

Most ladies in States side Latin clubs refuse dancing it with strangers ( it can be invasive ).

They are teaching it at the Arthur Murrays in Phoenix. Sort of a cleaned up version but...yes.

Yes, the music was really good. And we had the toned down version, I'm sure. Partly because I can't move my hips like that any more, no way. Unless ... I had time to practice it. Which I don't, unfortunately.

I love bachata!

My dance school does latin dance classes which I attend and sometimes we dance bachata - it is fun and sensual, but some ladies are to shy to dance it.

I hope it gains popularity like salsa as it is really a great dance.

Thats great..

funny you should say " cleaned up " because they taught Lambada in most studios back when, and it was as sensuous as Bachata, if not more so.
