I am not an expert at AT but I've noticed that sometimes very accomplished ballroom / Latin dancers do not make the transition to AT well. I'll let others speculate on why that might be.

An example is the owner of my studio (former chain owner, ballroom competitor, etc) teaching totally differently than people from BA with whom I dance. The studio owner puts major emphasis on patterns while no "real" AT teachers do. My comments are based on what I've seen here in Chicago and in Tampa.
