How to dance to 6/8?

Hello,

We're getting married and have chosen "Out of the Blue" by The Band as our first dance song, but we have no idea how to dance to it. It is in 6/8 time with a very strong 1 and 4 beat. The 1 and 4 beats are at 60 bpm.

We tried breaking it up into 123 456 and doing a waltz, but that was way too fast. If we just use the 1 and 4 beat, then we lose the 123 of the waltz.

Any ideas what type of dance would be appropriate? I can't tell you how much I appreciate the help!

Thanks!!!
Kimberly

Have you tried Viennese Waltz?

I didn't know the song, but judging by the 30-second clip on iTunes, the tempo is fractionally slower than 160 beats per minute - which is just about spot on for Viennese Waltz.

As a wedding dance, VW has a lot going for it: a very limited range of simple figures, but with lots of rotation, movement across the floor and a romantic feel. The biggest challenge is to get used to the rotation, so that you don't get too dizzy - which comes with practise. If you are novice dancers, you won't want to attempt the fleckerls, but a standing spin looks very similar (at least to the untrained eye) and makes much the same effect.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

Depending on how itsounds you can slow it down. I took I'll be by edwin mccain and it was about 130bpm and we slowed it to about 98bpm. the tone in the song changed but it worked well. people who had never heard the song before liked it. Those who had herad it warmed up to it.

I used Audacity to do the editing
