Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum and the website.

I'm hoping this is the place for some good advise.

My fiance and I are getting married in a few months. We don't really have a 'our song' but both of us love 'Baby I love you' by the Ramones.

Does anyone know what type of dance would be suitable for this songs rhythm?

I want to be competent, and certainly not shuffle around the floor!

Fox Trot gets my vote. It's a little too slow for a swing, and just a tad too fast for the Fox Trot, but not so much so that you couldn't have it looking nice.
I would even consider intertwining moves more common in the Country Two-Step, just to spice it up a bit. Otherwise, an American Smooth Fox Trot, with a traveling step along LOD, a box step, some promenades, some simple turns and maybe a grapevine or some continuity steps would work well, depending on your skill level. Grapevine is a little tougher when considering the wedding dress, however, so maybe nix that notion. The SideSway in Fox Trot would really work well to this song. Check the video clip demonstration for that step on this site to see what you think. Good song choice, though, in my opinion.

Great song. We do a lot of wedding dances in our area. This song is actually a Hustle - a little slow, but a Hustle nonetheless. You could do the East Coast Swing to it, because it is slower - 1-2, 3-a-4, 5-a-6 rhythm is there. I definitely would not do a Foxtrot or Country Two Step to it. Best of luck to you.

I agree with Dheun. It can be a nice foxtrot. If you speed things up you are usually okay but slow them down and the dancing looks really spotty unless you have great technique.

Yes, you could do an excruciatingly slow swing...but why? Swing isn't really a good wedding dance anyway...not for the first dance. Same for the hustle unless you're doing a 70's themed wedding and I somehow don't see that being your aim based on your music choice.

If the track was speeded up just a bit, then I would consider International Cha Cha as a reasonable basis for wedding dance choreography, but I'm no fan of the song as a dance track, either.

In tossing in my two cents again, I generally try to convince a wedding couple to do a dance in which they would be more inclined to be smiling and looking in each other's eyes through a majority of the routine. That's why I steer away from a swing quickly. Let the full wedding party have at it with a fun swing. The wedding couple should be doing a nice Fox Trot to this song, with a constant smile and gaze in each other's eyes to match what the song is saying. No, it isn't a song that I would pick to dance to in a social setting, but for a wedding message it's a good choice. The fact that it would work in a Fox Trot makes it even better because the couple can have some semblance of acting out what the song's message is.
None of the advice posted here has been wrong, per se, but if the couple tests a few patterns from each suggestion to this tune, I would have a hard time believing that the Fox Trot wouldn't serve the purpose of class, elegance and meaning that you'd want in your first dance as a married couple.

Heres my two cents worth. Wedding couples. Take your chosen tune to a teacher and ask is it possible to dance to this. Dont be disapointed if the answer is no. Many of them are just not suitable to put dance steps to.
If i got married again i would choose the Anniversary Waltz fom the film the Jolson Story. Oh how we we danced on the night we were wed. We vowed our true love but a word wasn't said. The world was in bloom there were stars in the sky, except fot the few that were there in your eyes. I like the Tom Jones version.
