Foxtrot & For Me Formidable

Hello,

I've been searching for foxtrot songs because I'd like that to be the first type of dance my fiance & I do at our wedding. This site had a great resource for music, so thanks to whomever created that part of the site.

I also found some tips on choosing a foxtrot song which said,

"The Foxtrot is a fun and festive dance that celebrates the era of big band and some of its most memorable music. Foxtrot dance music songs are typically written in 4/4 time and move at a quick pace. (120 to 136 beats per minute.)"

I'm wondering if the song, "For Me Formidable" fits this. I think it's 120 or 128 bpm, but am not entirely sure. I can't for the life of me find the information I'm looking for.

If anybody here knows whether this song works for a basic foxtrot, please let me know. My email address is liquidsunshine3@gmail.com, and I'd appreciate any advice before we begin our dance lessons.

Pulled up the version by Charles Aznavour on YouTube (For Me Formidable).

Sounds a bit fast for Slow Fox (International). Smooth Fox Trot is probably more suitable.

Assuming that you don't already have the choreography worked out, the Smooth Variations video in the Video/DVD store has some fun (albeit a bit demanding) patterns.

Good luck.

This one falls in that category of slightly too quick for the Fox Trot, and a bit too slow to turn it into the Swing.
I would go Smooth Fox Trot, for sure, as jj suggests. Take a look at the Sway Step on the videos, as that might be incorporated a little more, along with a regular box step, than a traveling sequence of steps.
The faster the music, the more awkward the regular traveling Fox Trot sequence can get. It just looks a little rushed, and you start losing frame, etc.
Either way, the song will work.

THANK you so much for the insight! I'm glad to hear that smooth fox trot will work. I love the look & feel of that dance, and the song is my absolute favorite for us.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm going to make note of all this and call the studio as soon as it's feasible for us to begin lessons. :)
