Could someone explain the difference in Diagonal to Wall vs. Diagnonal to Center? Thanks.

40niknar. From the mans position facing the wall we have to our left Down Line of Dance. To our right is Against Line of Dance In between the two we have Diag to Wall with the Line of Dance. And to our right Diag to Wall against The LOD.
If you turn to face the centre we now have the Line of Dance to our right.
The confusing thing is the ladies alignment which we dont use is the opposite to her partner unless the lady is practicing solo. So the lady would start a dance backing Diag to wall which with a partner would be called Dig to Wall with the LOD. These alignments must be understood if one is to dance to a reasonable standard.
In Latin there are no Alignments. but there are amounts of turn.

If you are moving down one wall of the usual anti-clockwise path and are currently facing down the line of dance (ie, in the direction of travel) diagonal wall will be 45 degrees to your right (diagonally towards the right) and diagonal centre will be 45 degrees to your left.

The usual abbreviations are DW and DC.

There are also diagonal wall against line of dance and diagonal center against line of dance, which would be the diagonals in the retrograde rather than progressive direction.

Exactly as anymouse has said provided you are moving in the usual direction which I assume you would be.

It would make no difference what direction you are moving, because alignments (such as DW or DC) relate to the position of your feet in relation to the room (ie the line of dance), and that never changes.

Where movement doesn't match alignment, a directional instruction is given too (except in tango, where the difference is inherent).

This is best explained, and with pictures, on site here in the Learning Centre at https://www.ballroomdancers.com/Learning_Center/Technique/Alignments/

(sorry, insert link would not work for me)
