Hi,
Is the phonetic sound of the Paso Doble Caping Pass, pronounced as 'FAR-ROLL' or 'FAR-ROYL' (as in royal) or something else. Thanks for any suggestions.

I say FAR-ROLL, but I guess it varies person to person!

The reason I posted this question is the late Jack Dixon, UK, prompted a lecturer - many years ago,- that the pronouncement of 'BANDERILLAS' was BANDER - REARS.the 'L's sounding as a 'Y' And yet, Lorna Lee (UK) on the ISTD(UK) Technique DVD for the Paso Doble, pronounced both names with 'L's. (Banderillas and Farol)

You should know that the English don't DO foreign languages!

I heard an IDTA examiner refer to tango's 'giro' with a G, and such ignorance astonishes. As a tango dancer, I had to get to grips with Spanglish some time ago, and can thoroughly recommend Google Translate.

Put in a word like banderillas and chose Spanish to English, and you can 'listen' to the correct prounuciation of your word or phrase - and they're pretty reliable. With Paso, be careful to distinguish Spanish from French, of course.

Try banderillas, and you find that Jack Dixon was quite right. I'm afraid that I find Lorna Lee's voice rather wearing in the ISTD series (but not half as much as Keith Kelly on the IDTA's Tango DVD). A joy is the (uncredited) introductory voice-over that opens the new IDTA Ballroom Technique DVD's - perfect diction, received proununciation, straight from the Home Service of the mid-50's. Why can't they all be like that? I want dance information, not the intonation of a costermonger, or the puveyor of jellied eels ...

To add to your comment about " English " not doing etc ( altho there are those that do ), its even worse when high profile presenters, like the one who does Univ. challenge, pronounces Houston as House ton ;and the list is endless, especially the one who screws up more proper nouns and place names, as the presenter of Eggheads ( and hes a news reader ??? ).Obvioulsy, the producers are also culpable .
