Waltz and Viennese Waltz Songs

Hi!

I'm absolutely in love the Smooth and Rhythm Variation DVDs. Great instruction, nice routines, all around great DVDs. I just have one little question...

Does anyone know the songs for the Waltz and Viennese Waltz? I'm really taken with both of them, the Viennese Waltz in particular.

Thanks so much!

JM

Most of contemporary waltzes are film music e.g. Godfather, Doctor Zhivago, Secret Garden, The Last Station. They are beautiful, but not easy to dance to.

For learning and practice, I would suggest country music waltzes like: He Broke Your Memory Last Night, Funny Face, It's Four In the Morning (Viennese waltz).

I would have to agree with the previous statement that most waltzes are from film/musicals these days, and they are not easy to dance to let alone choreograph.

For a waltz I would suggest something like Moon River (I get the contradiction) or Are you lonsesome tonight?

For a Viennese Waltz plump for something like Mr Bojangles for example or even That's Amore. Both of these are simple rhythmically and easy to dance and choreograph to.

Have fun! :)

Hi J,

Unfortunately those are not complete songs. All of the music from the variation DVD's, except for EC Swing and Tango, were composed by me to avoid the hassle of music licensing. I only composed about 16 to 32 bars of each, and looped it when absolutely necessary.

Someday I hope to compose a full album of ballroom music, which might include some version of some of these tracks. But right now my time is consumed with family, career, and of course, building this website.

Oh, that's a shame. They're really beautiful. But thanks anyway.

P.S.
Saw you in January at City Lights. You were awesome!

Another song I like is "Charade." It is film music, also. We have both Slow and Viennese Waltz versions of it, and both are good.

For those who like contemporary music for slow waltz, try Journey's "Open Arms" and B. Manilow's "Weekend in New England". And for V. Waltz, Seal's, "A Kiss for a Rose" and Enya's "Orinoco Flow".
