1. Salsa BasicThe Salsa Basic Movement consists of a combination of alternating forward and backwards rock steps in Closed Position, to the count of "Quick-Quick Slow, Quick-Quick Slow". For both man and lady, the right foot will break back, and the left foot will break forward.
The figure can be danced without any turn (as shown), or with up to 1/4 turn left per measure. The "Slow" count can be a closing step (as shown), or it can be taken forward, back, or to the side.
When watching the video clip, note the action of the man's left (lady's right) arm and hand. It swings down and inward as the man rocks forward, and then returns to the normal position as he rocks back. 1b. Salsa Basic - Open PosThe Salsa Basic may be danced in closed position or open position with a one or two-hand hold. When watching the video clip of the Salsa Basic in open position, note the action of the man's right hand during his back rock: The "Hand Push". For this, the man will connect his right hand to the lady's left, palms forward, and push upward. The hand will then lower again on the final step. |
