9. Outside Change
Fact Sheet
Official Name:Outside Change
Dance / Level:Intermediate Bronze Slow Waltz
Aliases:4-6 Basic Weave
Suggested
Prerequisites:
Natural Turn

The Outside Change is a lovely and simple figure which consists of 3 steps, all danced in-line with basic Waltz rise and fall. The man begins backing Diagonal Center. He takes two steps back, then follows with a step to the side and slightly forward, turning to the left. The first step of the following figure is taken in outside partner position.

The basic version of the Outside Change, as described in the man's and lady's charts, begins in closed position, lady in line with man, typically following steps 1-3 of an under-turned Natural Turn. A more advanced version begins with the lady taking the first step forward in CBMP, outside partner on man's right side. At the Bronze level this can only be done by preceding with a Reverse Corté when taken in the corner of the room. More options for preceding figures exist in the advanced levels, the most popular being an over-turned Progressive Chassé to Right.

9b. Outside Change to Promenade

The Outside Change to Promenade Position has the same first two steps as the basic Outside Change. The man begins backing Diagonal Center. He takes two steps back, but then follows with a step to the side, turning to promenade position. The ladys 3rd step is also a side step to promenade. The first step of the next figure will be taken in Promenade Position moving down the line of dance.
