12. Basic Weave Fact Sheet
The Basic weave is a left-turning figure and is comprised of 6 steps danced over 6 beats of music. It begins backing diagonal wall for the man, typically following the first three steps of an under-turned Reverse Turn. He checks back on his right foot, then steps forward on his left, beginning to turn to the left as he rises up on his left foot. He completes 1/8 of a turn by the end of the third step to end backing line of dance. The next three steps of the figure are, for all intents and purposes, an Outside Change, the first step being taken with lady outside partner on man's right side. The man makes 1/8 turn to left between steps 3 and 4 of the Basic Weave to back diagonal center, and the foot positions and alignments from there are identical to the Outside Change -- the man stepping back, back, side & slightly forward, and the lady stepping forward, forward, side & slightly back. The first step of the following figure is taken with man outside partner on lady's right side. Please note that the video demonstration includes the preceding Reverse Turn. 12b. Basic Weave to Promenade The Basic Weave to Promenade begins identically to the normal Basic Weave, but ends instead with man and lady in promenade position. Whereas the last 3 steps of the Basic Weave mimic those of the Outside Change, the last 3 steps of the Basic Weave to Promenade mimic those of the Outside Change to Promenade.
