Dance / Level: | Full Bronze American Style Tango |
Aliases: | Doble Corte, Rock to Back Corte |
Suggested Prerequisites: | None |
Contra Rock is a 6-step checking action and change of direction, well suited for corners but also used as a traveling figure, acting as a type of reverse turn.
The first two steps are taken as a LF forward rock or left-turning rock for man (quick quick), followed by a LF backward walk on step 3 (slow). Lady's part is natural opposite. Steps 4-6 can be any reverse turn ending, such as a Closed Finish, Open Finish, Gancho, Reverse Pivot, etc.
At a corner, no turn is taken on the first 3 steps, then up to 3/8 turn to left can be taken over 4-6 to end facing anywhere between diagonal wall and diagonal center of the new line of dance.
At the side of the room, the figure begins facing diagonal center. The first two steps are danced as a turning rock, turning 3/8 to left so that the backward walk moves down line of dance. Steps 4-6 are then danced exactly as in the Open Reverse Turn.
